1.1 Introduction
Introduction
This first part of the Director’s Institute course on Training and Development focuses on both organizational level and individual level information that will help you rethink how you complete orientation, onboarding and training activities.
At an organizational level, we will discuss the importance of creating learning organizations, the roles and responsibilities of people at work for training and development, and differences in types of learning at work. The goal of this module is to give you some new context and definitions as you start to think about learning differently. It also provides a high-level overview of the main areas and elements of training and development.
At an individual level, we will discuss unique features of adult learners, how they learn and what methods are available to you for instructional design.
We hope that this module can help Network Member Directors in the planning and execution of their onboarding, orientation, and training plans for instructor and volunteer teams. Throughout this course there are several tools and frameworks that may be useful and complimentary to your existing training plans and programs.
