6. (During) Running Your Mentor Event
(During) Running a Mentor Event
The following is a handy checklist so that during your mentor event you can take advantage of all the opportunities to make the most of the experience and be an outstanding representative for your program.
- Greet the mentor when they arrive
- Introduce the mentor to the program
- Be engaged in the presentation and ask questions
- Collect quotes from youth during the event
- Take photos (with photo permission) such as;
- Candid action shots
- Full group shots
- Small group and individual shots
- Photos with program banners or other promotional material in the background (if applicable)
- Follow any social media plans for the specific event.
- Thanking the mentor.
- Make sure the mentor knows where to go following the event (post-secondary campuses can be difficult to navigate!)
- Have the youth complete any evaluations required.
Minds On: The skill development and experiential learning that you can gain in the process of recruiting and planning for mentor events is valuable. Consider the ways that this process is aligned with event planning, communication, building networks, leadership and professionalism. How can you think about your role in mentor engagement as a transferable work experience? How does your on-the-job experience contribute to your skill development? |
