Future Skills Developed
While most people think of “classroom management” in the context of working with children, the skills addressed in this module have relevance for anyone that is managing teams, leading others, and mediating conflict. By completing this module, you will develop skills that include:
Social Intelligence
By thinking about ways to relate to others, your own power and position, and how to support others in the classroom you are strengthening your social intelligence skills
Leadership
Learning about appropriate responses to behaviours, considering your leadership style, and adding strategies to your classroom management toolkit can all help support your development of leadership
Communication
Resolving conflict or behaviour challenges in the classroom by thinking about supporting others in productive and safe ways is an important part of furthering your communication skills
Adaptability & Flexibility
This module supports the understanding that classroom management is not easy, often using your flexibility and adaptability will be key in responding to challenges
Initiative
This module and the accompanying ideas, charts, reflection tools and strategies should help you strengthen your initiative and feel empowered to respond in your real life scenarios.
The Classroom Management module is unique in that all of Actua's Future Skills are reinforced when you practice the concepts introduced in this course. You will be challenged to think critically about dynamic situations, respond appropriately in a wide variety of contexts, work collaboratively with coworkers to manage complex challenges, and persevere even when things are difficult. The reality is, managing classrooms is not easy and most teachers spend years (if not their entire career!) learning, practicing, and refining their classroom management techniques. Take the opportunity to explore further reading, discuss the concepts presented here with your team, and revisit this module throughout the year to see how your ideas shift as you encounter new situations.
