3. Understanding Parents
Understanding Parents
As an Instructor you will be dealing with Parents/Caregivers in some capacity, at least some of the time. This may be during drop-off/pick-up times, when there is an injury or behaviour issue to report, during events, when conducting registration, and more. During these times you may wonder how to act, what to say, and how to solve problems that may arise. This course will not give you a "one-size-fits-all" or perfect answer, but we hope through this training you will develop strategies and ideas for how to communicate meaningfully and effectively with Parents.
Video: Parenting in the Modern World
Watch the following Ted Talk and then using what you have learned, complete the questions in your workbook.
Activity Two
In the space provided in your printout of the Communicating with Parents Workbook or in personal device/notebook, consider the following questions. Base your responses on what you have learned from the video above as well as personal experience.
- Outline your daily routine at camp, include as much detail as possible.
- What components of your day at camp would be considered pivot points for campers?
- How can you bring gamification into your camper group? List at least 3 strategies and ideas to implement these.
