Anti-racism in STEM

Message from Actua

Dear Instructors and Directors,

Racialized and marginalized groups within Canada continue to face inequalities pursuing, obtaining and sustaining STEM education and careers. Actua is committed to combating these inequities and diversifying STEM education across the country so it is a welcoming, inclusive and safe place for all youth.

As part of this commitment, Actua is providing network members training, tools and resources to join us in this effort and further advance their personal journey to self-examination and discovery. The particular training you are about to embark on has been designed to provide you value well beyond your current role. I am confident the lessons you will learn, backed by your ongoing commitment to equality, will help you become an ambassador for anti-racism wherever you go.

Thank you for participating in this training, and thank you to network member SuperNOVA, Dalhousie University, and training partner Future Ancestors Inc for their work to develop this module.

Remember, the journey for racial equality is precisely that - a journey. I ask that you join me in continuing this journey beyond this training and to never stop listening, learning and understanding the perspectives of racialized and marginalized groups. Together we can become powerful advocates for anti-racism in STEM and rebrand STEM as being for all.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Flanagan
